Goal Setting
GOALS, GOALS AND MORE GOALS
Of
course, the rule here is that most people have heard this
time and time again, yet most fail to actually write down
their goals.
Well, those who take this advice and actually do it are 90%
more likely to achieve the goals (period).
If setting daily goals is all one does,
then results will follow. Remember, it’s not the parts
but the sum of the parts that create
success. Writing down goals is another
part to the ship.
One lesson in goal setting is to create a
“master-vision” or a master goal and work backwards from
there. This is a good idea. And it helps to create
a clearer vision or pathway to achieving the
ultimate goal.
However, most people do not do this at all. Most
people do not spend that time and effort creating such a
plan.
I believe this is because most people are reactive instead
of pro-active. Most people log onto the computer and
react. They go in whatever direction and do whatever
comes in their minds.
This is simply not being “focused”. If one is
completely serious about succeeding online, and are determined
to make a fortune online, then it should not be so difficult to
set goals… especially if it means that one has a 90% better
chance of achieving goals by writing them down.
Yet, people continue to distract themselves and remain
re-active to what they do instead of taking control and being
proactive.
Imagine two people sitting side by side. Both are
seeking to achieve the same thing, which is to earn a living
online and work from home.
We’ll call the two Bob and John. Bob has written down
his goals. He writes down his daily duties. He
practices time management skills. He is focused and takes
action. Bob is a go-getter and is quite determined to
succeed. He believes in himself and tells his wife that
by Christmas he’ll be working from home and spending more time
with the family. He is confident, focused and driven.
John is a talented and charming guy. He likes to have
a good time and loves to play. John wants freedom from
working a day job so he can spend more time with his family and
go on vacations. He hates his job. He is quite
determined to achieve his dreams. He spends a great deal
of time learning about Internet Marketing. In fact, on
weekends he stays up until 3 or 4am working on IM. He has
met many other successful marketers and talks to them
often. He asks for help and often has a host of questions
for others.
Which one would you predict would
succeed first… or even succeed at all?
I’d pick Bob. Bob is focused and most likely works
smart. He is confident and expects to achieve his
goals. He really believes in himself and seems like he’d
be more of a stubborn type of individual.
This means he’d be relentless and most likely have blinders
on.
John has some good things going for him too. One of
which is that he builds relationships. John could succeed
quickly with the right relationship or partner. However,
would he be able to sustain success? I can see John
making some money faster online than Bob. However, I see
Bob as one who will build a strong foundation on which to build
a “super-business” online.
