Focused Action And Time Management Skills
If people
want success and wealth in their lives, then they have to
cause it to happen.
People have all the resources and intelligence that is
required to succeed online already.
What people don’t have, is focused
action and time management
skills. Some of the basic building blocks to a
successful online business are basic skills that can be
learned.
Is there really much difference between offline business and
online business? Aside from technology and fads, many of the
same business principles apply.
When it comes to being successful at anything, doesn’t the
same “success principles” apply?
Nothing happens until action is taken. Action sets
everything in motion. It is “cause and effect”. There
are certain actions people can take that will cause an effect.
Remember: focused action!
If I kick someone in the knee, there will be a reaction. If
I continue to speed in my car daily, my chances of getting a
ticket or a wreck increase. If I continue to work on myself, my
wealth, my success and do this for a long time – through the
years, I stand a better chance of becoming successful and
wealthy.
In fact, my rule of thumb is that the only way to not be
successful is to not even try and/or to quit. I mean,
if I never quit – I am bound to succeed.
Doesn’t that make sense?
What I find is that many people have a lack of
focus and a lack of basic
business or “success” skills.
And these skills really are the foundation that is lacking for
many people to succeed – at anything they desire.
I believe there are a group of skills that people should
master if they seek success. These skills should be
practiced and mastered.
Keep in mind, these are skills and skills can be
learned. I am not referring to talent, but skills.
Once mastered, these skills can be the foundation on which to
build anything you desire.
Recently, I watched a show on a famous business man who owns
an NFL football team. He talked about why he has been so
successful. It was amazing because everything he said is
information I’ve learned. It was all basic information and
basic skills.
We all know time management is important. However, would you
agree that some people are better at it than others? Would you
agree that some people focus on their time management skills
more than the rest do?
It’s a better foundation then. The skill is more effective.
It’s common for people to get distracted. In today’s day and
age, we are constantly bombarded with all sorts of
distractions.
I actually tried to learn how to meditate. I figured it
would help with crystallizing my thoughts and increase my level
of focus. I found it difficult to meditate simply because of
all the constant distractions.
And, I’d distract myself. It really is a skill that must be
practiced. I must practice meditation, or focus, or time
management for the foundation to be rock solid.
The 80/20 rule (Pareto’s
Principle) is such an important rule. It
really puts things into perspective if you learn about it.
If people focus on the
real things that
matter they will
get better results. |
I believe these basic skills can have a deep impact on
people’s results. If people would simply take one task, or one
action step, or one duty for the day and focus all their effort
on completing that one task, they would march forward quickly
in the direction of their goals.
I may want to set up an entire website system. I may want to
set up a business model in which to operate. I need all sorts
of stuff to get done.
I may need web design, product creation, back end products,
a blog, articles, content, a logo, an ebook design, and on and
on. It can be quite a daunting project.
It may be such a daunting project, I simply decide to
distract myself instead of complete these things. It may be so
overwhelming that I never really get anything done.
And then, I get so distracted that I pick up something else
to apply my attention towards.
However, if I take one thing at a time and focus on each
task at hand, I’ll march forward towards completing the entire
business model.
So, I may decide to start on product creation. My focus will
be entirely on creating the product. I’ll be relentless and
dedicated, or somewhat stubborn to focus only at the task at
hand.
I’ll have blinders on and push through until the duty is
done. In fact, I will try to do well at the duty, but
completing the duty is more important than actually doing it
well.
As an example, I may not be great on the treadmill, but
getting on that thing is better than not getting on it at all,
right?
I may lift weights and not use proper technique. I’m still
lifting weights right? I’m going to get some sort of
results.
I can focus on improving my techniques over time. But, I’m
starting right now and taking action.
With all these duties, I focus on one thing at a time and
complete each thing needed to get done.
I can set up mile marketers and deadlines. On one group
project I worked on recently, the project leader kept setting
these crazy deadlines. I knew we would not complete in time for
deadlines, so I asked him why he was setting them on such a
small time frame.
His answer was that it creates urgency – and people will
wait until the last minute anyway. So, why not make the last
minute quicker than later.
Well, that makes sense…
People will be much more productive if they focus on time
management and taking smart action. The more productive people
are, the more results they will get.
If people took an “account” of everything they did each day,
then each thing they did should move them closer to achieving
their goals. Each thing they do that does not move them closer
to achieving their goals… actually moves them further away.
I mean, if I have duties to complete tonight, then each
thing I do not do towards completing those duties delays
everything and moves me further away. Once I decide to get to
it and complete some things, I’m back on track.
But I lost some time there while I was distracted.
Therefore, I was further away from achieving my goals.
Distraction can ruin a goal quicker than just about
anything. Consistent, focused action can help
achieve a goal better than anything I know of.
One of the best things people can do to stay focused is
write down their duties for the day prior
to attempting to complete the duties.
By writing them down, the focused mind becomes more
“locked-on” to what needs to be done. I like to write them on a
dry eraser board so they are in plain site.
I know that I will not want to see those same duties on the
board tomorrow. I will feel bad about that. Therefore, I try to
complete them so once I’m done; I can erase them off the
board.
Erasing them off the board is a sort of celebration for me.
I find joy erasing duties off the board. I don’t want to be
overwhelmed, so I don’t write my entire business plan on the
board… just the duties for the day.
If I think of something that needs to be done later on, not
today, I’ll write those in my planner for the next day or
further out in the week, or month.
My focus is on completing the tasks at hand. Anything new
would be a distraction. So, if something pops into my head, it
gets jotted down for the future.
I find planning my day, and working my plan is crucial to my
success!
If people want to cause wealth
and success in their lives, then they must take focused action
and manage their time effectively. And, these skills can be
learned. If people seek success and are determined, then
learning and mastering these skills should be
paramount!
These skills are the foundation on which to build a giant
skyscraper of a business. In my opinion, these types of skills
are much more important than products, marketing strategies,
secrets of the gurus, the latest and greatest, etc.
These skills are what it takes to succeed in life. And, at
anything one ventures to achieve. These skills are so
important, that I believe without them, chances of success are
narrowed down to almost pure luck.
What happens for people who succeed without these skills is
that they rely on talent, luck and scattered success. I
recommend that these skills be mastered as the foundation for
anything a person seeks to achieve.
